Open Source at the heart is being open with everything you do. Design when done openly is pure design. Open Source allows design to be accessible to everyone, both as a product and as a skill. By being a designer in open source, I have my feet grounded and sounds of so many diverse inputs in my ears. Sounds and influences I wouldn’t get in a closed world. Designing in open source, you challenge yourself beyond the echo chamber. You are part of making good design accessible to anyone that needs it and not just those that can afford it—that’s powerful.
We need to create empathic, emotional, connected experiences that touch the very core of our human nature.
Living as much digitally as possible and as light a footprint on the planet. I personally don’t own books or sketch on paper. We all should be aware of our impact on the world and lighten that.
Part of my daily life is my Timolino Tea Infuser. Tea for me, allows pauses for thinking and this is so well designed but easy to travel with.
My iPad mini is my digital device cornerstone. Being paperless, this is my notebook, my sketchbook, my idea collector.
My path to Automattic was a windy one with open source threading through a lot of it. I have tried to experience a lot in this life and look forward to doing much more. My background is a combination of psychology, coding, design and art. I now get to focus on the experience users have with themes. When not doing that, I like to do yoga, photography and spend time with my dogs.
