Ryan Cowles

Happiness Engineer / 3 Years at Automattic / Image Editor: Photoshop / Editor: Atom / Los Angeles, California USA

I’ve felt like an outsider at various points throughout my life. Open Source is one of the things that I’ve found that connects people. It’s provided me a way of working with others to create something for everyone, something that is bigger than myself.

🌎 Needs

Compassion. Communication. Understanding.

🌏 Wants

Empathy and kindness. Not just in design. Not just in our work. But in our day-to-day lives as a whole. We are all related.

My dad’s old Canon AT-1 / This camera got me into 35mm photography, which led to many of my early explorations into the world around me. It takes some time to learn how to get the most out of it. But in doing so, you can learn a lot from it.

The Personal Computer / As a kid, it opened up a new world of possibility to me. And through continued innovations, has brought me places I never could have imagined.

❔ Whois

I’m an East Coast native living in Los Angeles, CA. At different points in my life, I’ve been a web developer, a sign maker, a print designer, a troublemaker, and always an adventurer, always curious. Nowadays, I lead a team at Automattic that helps provide people the best possible experience with our products.
