The open source nature of WordPress plays a significant role in why it’s gotten the traction that it has. We’ve seen beautifully-designed proprietary competitors come and go, unable to reach the critical mass they need to sustain themselves. If usage is oxygen for ideas, open source is one of the most effective ways to breathe life into a young project.

Universal design. It’s a principle commonly applied in architecture, but not always considered when designing events and digital products. How can we make the experiences we design more equally accessible to everyone? How can we learn more about the people who try to use our products, but can’t, because of design decisions we made?

Tolomeo Lamp / It’s an extremely versatile, nearly infinitely-adjustable lamp—that’s also incredibly simple to use, and so visually understated that it almost disappears.

Philips Hue / It seems like a silly idea. Who needs an internet-connected, color-changing light bulb? But when I figured out that I could tune all the light in my house to the exact color temperature I preferred, I fell in love.
